Course Aims

The purpose of this course is to provide participants with the skills and confidence to communicate more effectively with clients and co-workers who speak English as a second language.

 

Programme Outline

Introductions

Personal experiences of using other languages

Identifying what we may misinterpret and why

Identifying which aspects of what we write or say can cause difficulties

Practise in adjusting messages (oral and written) to make them clearer

Review and close

 

Practical work will ideally be based on actual examples provided by the client.

Course Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • recognise the causes of miscommunication

  • identify potential difficulties in the English they use

  • adjust their use of English to make it clearer

  • communicate more effectively
